Counselling for Older People
This is a service for people 50 years and over, or their families, who have concerns about their older years. Professionally-trained and accredited staff and counsellors provide specialised counselling for older people and their carers, addressing issues including grief, loss, relationships, ill health, trauma, depression, support networks. This service is also available for people with early-stage dementia, and their families or carers. In situations where an older person is unable to come to our offices for a counselling appointment, the counsellor may see the person in their own home.
Social Work
Social work support for people 65 years and over living in their own home, or their families. We offer Social Work assessment and information, support for carers, co-ordination of support services, advocacy, elder abuse intervention, liaison with other health professionals or agencies, assistance with decision making, access to day care, respite care and residential or hospital care.
Grandparents as Parents
This is a support group for Grandparents who are raising grandchildren. These can be stressful, difficult financial and /or emotional situations.The objective of the group is to address isolation, provide support, assist with needs, to identify current issues and advocate for them, refer on to other services, provide education, and to encourage. Linwood Centre

A new centre providing services for older people, children and families in the Eastern suburbs of Christchurch.The purpose-built facility is at 601 Gloucester Street next to St George’s Iona Church, on the site of the former manse. Opened in September, 2007,it houses Harakeke Club Linwood, a day activity programme for people with memory loss, which is part of Presbyterian Support’s Enliven positive ageing services. Also on site are Enliven counselling, social work and falls prevention staff, and Family Works staff working with children and families.
Falls Prevention
These programmes assist older people to avoid falls and live independently and confidently at home. Tai Chi groups offer a modified form of Tai Chi where movements are adjusted for older people, making it suitable for all levels of ability. Tai Chi improves strength and balance.

Harakeke Club Riccarton and Harakeke Club Linwood

There are purpose-built Harakeke Club venues in Riccarton and Linwood for friendly, day activity programmes for people with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia. Transport is available to and from the clubs and a midday meal, morning and afternoon teas provided. The centres are purpose-built stand alone dementia specific facilities which run five days a week, 8.30-5pm.
Professionally trained staff take an holistic approach to healthcare. A maximum of 16 clients attend daily. Secure garden setting. Varied and needs based programme. Subsidies may apply.

Totara Club day activity programme for older people caters for different needs and levels of support. Located next to Harakeke Club Riccarton, it serves the southwest side of the city and hill suburbs. Professionally trained staff co-ordinate and supervise the programme. Transport to and from home is available in our minibus. A maximum of 16 clients attend daily
SupportLink

SupportLink is a specialised service that supports older people who are experiencing changes related to memory loss and/or dementia which may be affecting their lives. SupportLink assists them to maintain their independence and remain in their homes safely for as long as possible.
SupportLink is a combination of the Enliven services of Presbyterian Support (USI) in the Canterbury area. It provides a range of services which can include day programme attendance, social work, family support and education, community support worker. A member of the SupportLink Team prepares an individual’s Support Plan; a mix of services that is tailored to an individual’s support needs. This plan is flexible and can be adjusted as needs change.
SupportLink includes support for those who care for these older people at home.
SupportLink is currently a ‘pilot project’ funded by the CDHB as part of their strategy to enable older people to continue to age in place and is free to participants.
